World Courier’s CORE Labs Uses Data and Innovation to Improve Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Effectiveness

LONDON – World Courier, the global leader in specialty logistics and an AmerisourceBergen company, has announced the launch of its Climate Optimisation Research & Engineering (CORE) Labs. Science-led and data-driven, CORE Labs is a new solutions center within World Courier focused solely on helping pharmaceutical manufacturer clients evaluate, validate and select the right climate-controlled packaging solutions for their specific needs.

The new solution center aims to fulfill this vision and demonstrate measurable value to clients through three primary objectives:

  • Increasing data-backed visibility to the quality and applicability of all major packaging solutions on the market
  • Providing recommended combinations of “right packaging for the right transport route,” based on transparent testing results and real-world data
  • Developing new packaging solutions with industry partners in situations where customer needs require novel solutions

Based outside of Cologne, Germany, CORE Labs is staffed by temperature-control experts with decades of combined experience ensuring the safe, secure and timely transport of life science products and other temperature-sensitive materials. The solutions center also includes a validated climate chamber that is capable of simultaneously testing up to three pallet-sized containers.

John Butler, president of World Courier, described the solutions center as unique within the industry. “CORE Labs is more than simply a center of excellence for packaging—it’s the first chance that shippers have ever had to gather end-to-end insights on how different packaging solutions truly perform,” said Butler. “We will be able to use our commercial-grade climate chamber to test packaging before it gets implemented and then verify those results across hundreds of transport lanes. CORE Labs will allow shippers to make more informed and — ultimately — more cost-efficient decisions across their entire portfolio of specialty logistics needs.”

The importance of specialty packaging and transportation has never been greater. In today’s increasingly complex pharmaceutical environment, more products — both clinical and commercial —require time- and temperature-sensitive transport. With sophisticated commercial products and global clinical trials, manufacturers have little tolerance for delayed or compromised shipments. World Courier addresses these challenges with this turnkey, transparent and trusted service.

Through this offering, World Courier is helping to realize the full potential of specialty medications for both patients and manufacturers. At the same time, the company aims to improve supply chain performance for the global healthcare market by providing more reliable and cost-effective clinical trial and commercial product transport.
CORE Labs’ first major innovation will be unveiled at the 2015 World Courier Biomedical Seminar, which will take place in Cologne, Germany on 17 September and 18 September. More information on the Biomedical Seminar is available here (www.wcbiomedicalseminar.com).
