Non-profit partner spotlight

Sostento helps frontline healthcare workers save lives in underserved communities. Founded in 2019 in response to the opioid overdose crisis, Sostento has worked tirelessly to uplift health heroes during the pandemic through providing tools, services, and resources that they need most. The AmerisourceBergen Foundation has provided Sostento with vital support to its peer recovery network  and community outreach efforts in West Virginia, as well as its COVID-19 response work in providing free, charitable clinics across the country.

About us

The AmerisourceBergen Foundation is an independent, not-for-profit charitable giving organization, established by the AmerisourceBergen Corporation with a mission to improve the health and wellbeing of patient populations – both human and animal – by partnering with organizations to expand access to healthcare in order to advance health equity.

Foundation governance

The Foundation is governed by a majority independent Board of Directors. A Grantmaking Committee made up of leaders from across the enterprise is responsible for reviewing applications, resolving questions, interpreting eligibility requirements, and approving requests for grants.  Together, the Foundation Board of Directors and Grantmaking Committee provide effective, on-going decision-making on behalf of the Foundation.

Our focus on access to healthcare

We believe that health equity can only be achieved by providing access to healthcare for all. Through an invitation-only grant process, the AmerisourceBergen Foundation collaborates with organizations to implement projects that have a goal of providing everyone, both humans and animals, with a fair and just opportunity to be as healthy as possible. Specific areas funded include:

Human health

Supporting access to healthcare for underserved populations around the globe

Animal health

Improving the health of service, companion, and production animals that support humans and advance disaster response efforts

Prescription drug safety

Combating prescription drug misuse through safe disposal, innovative solutions, and mental health support

Our local communities

Hyperlocal Grants: Through employee-driven, local grantmaking committees we support the communities where our team members live and work

Our team members

Scholarships: We annually provide up to ten scholarships to the children of AmerisourceBergen team members who are furthering their education after completing high school at both traditional four-year institutions as well as attending community college and technical schools

Our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion

At the AmerisourceBergen Foundation, we foster diverse, equitable and inclusive partnerships that create healthier lives and communities. We aim to advance health equity and access to healthcare by collaborating with organizations who strive for diversity, equity and inclusiveness in their own organizations and the communities they serve, as we partner to create healthier futures.

Diversity, equity and inclusion is woven throughout everything we do at the AmerisourceBergen Foundation. We seek to measure our programs and the programs we support within a framework of health equity. And we are committed to continually improving our practices and procedures to ensure equity and inclusivity among all of our stakeholders and building partnerships that result in real lasting change.

Acting as a community

We take pride in the partnerships we’re developing through our invitation-only programs, hyperlocal grants and scholarship programs. Because we know that when we are united in our responsibilities, together we can create healthier futures.

We are proud to partner with the following organizations:
