Coordinated Care: The Value of Patient and Provider Satisfaction within Health System Specialty Pharmacies

By AmerisourceBergen

As specialty therapies become a bigger part of the pharmaceutical landscape, more and more health systems are entering the specialty pharmacy space. Health system specialty pharmacies (HSSPs) provide the required high-touch, specialized support to minimize adverse events, mitigate financial barriers and improve therapy compliance and adherence for patients taking these specialty medications. But the HSSP's value extends beyond the financial benefits it provides to the health system.

As key stakeholders in an HSSP, providers and patients both recognize the importance of an in-house specialty pharmacy in enabling greater efficiency and a comprehensive approach to patient care. To better understand the true value of an HSSP to these stakeholders, the Integrated Health Systems Outcomes Coalition (IHOC) collaborated with five large health systems to conduct provider and patient satisfaction surveys.
