Columbus Becomes Center of Pharmaceutical Innovation
Columbus, Ohio – Ohio Governor John Kasich got his first look on Tuesday at what’s being called a next-generation pharmaceutical distribution center - under construction in central Ohio.
AmerisourceBergen’s new National Distribution Center will process approximately 96,000,000 units of medication daily. The facility is expected to employ 100 associates when it opens in the fall of 2014. The company already employs nearly 500 people in the Columbus area.
“Our business is about shaping healthcare delivery,” said AmerisourceBergen President and CEO Steve Collis. “This new national distribution center is the nucleus of our nationwide pharmaceutical distribution business. It helps people get the medication they need, when they need it. It makes it easier for manufacturers to deliver their product. And it helps improve the lives of millions of patients.”
AmerisourceBergen officials say the new 87,000 square foot facility will serve as a distribution hub for the company’s pharmaceutical supply chain management business. It is a conduit between pharmaceutical manufacturers, retailers and licensed healthcare providers.
Collis says the new facility gives its customers a single drop location for shipments. AmerisourceBergen will then disperse the shipments to regional warehouses nationwide – where the pharmaceuticals are distributed to retailers and licensed healthcare providers. Once completed, the center will make Columbus a vitally important spot on the country’s pharmaceutical map.
