AmerisourceBergen Supports Americares Emergency Programs
Stamford,
Conn. – The AmerisourceBergen Foundation, an independent
not-for-profit charitable giving organization and the philanthropic arm of
AmerisourceBergen, has
joined the Americares Emergency Response Partner Program and committed $100,000 to support the
health-focused relief and development organization’s ongoing preparedness,
response and recovery efforts in the U.S. and around the world.
In addition, the AmerisourceBergen Foundation has generously donated $15,000 to support Americares Hurricane Florence relief efforts in the Carolinas. An Americares emergency team in North Carolina is delivering medicine and relief supplies to shelters and health clinics in affected areas.
“We are grateful to have the AmerisourceBergen Foundation partner with us to help disaster survivors,” said Americares Vice President of Emergency Programs Kate Dischino. “Their support will help meet the health needs in communities devastated by Florence and allow us to prepare for and rapidly respond to future emergencies.”
Americares Emergency Response Partner Program allows the organization to maintain a constant state of readiness for emergencies, including pre-positioning relief supplies in disaster-prone countries, maintaining an international roster of on-call disaster response experts, supporting needs assessments and deploying emergency response teams to disaster zones.
“The AmerisourceBergen Foundation is committed to improving the health and wellbeing of patient populations around the world,” said AmerisourceBergen Foundation President Gina Clark. “Our longstanding collaboration with Americares is a powerful example of how together we can expand access to quality healthcare and truly create healthier futures. We are proud to join the Americares Emergency Response Partner Program in order to help bolster ongoing relief efforts and share preparedness steps that could help save lives in the future.”
AmerisourceBergen has been a dedicated Americares partner since 2005, providing both product donations and financial support. In 2018, the AmerisourceBergen Foundation partnered with Americares to donate 625,000 drug deactivation packets to help low-income and uninsured patients safely dispose of prescription medication. As an extension of this ongoing work, the AmerisourceBergen Foundation also provided Americares with a grant to support the expansion of behavioral health programming at U.S. clinics.
The Americares Emergency Response Partner Program was launched in 2013 to help support its ability to monitor, assess and respond to disasters. The program engages corporations and employees in Americares emergency preparedness, response and recovery work through annual support.
Americares has professional relief workers ready to respond to disasters at a moment’s notice and stocks emergency medicine and supplies in its warehouses in the U.S., Europe and India that can be delivered quickly in times of crisis. The organization responds to an average of 30 natural disasters and humanitarian crises worldwide each year, establishes long-term recovery projects and brings disaster preparedness programs to vulnerable communities.
