AmerisourceBergen Named Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality

Company received 100 percent on Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Annual Scorecard on LGBTQ Workplace Equality

VALLEY FORGE, Pa. – AmerisourceBergen, a global healthcare company, proudly announced that it received a perfect score of 100 on the 2021 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), the nation’s premier benchmarking report on corporate policies in support of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) workplace equality. This is the fourth year in a row AmerisourceBergen earned top marks from the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation.

“At AmerisourceBergen, our work begins with people, focuses on being part of the solution and celebrates individuality without prejudice – all to help us make a difference in our communities as we create healthier futures for all,” said Dr. Lonie Haynes, SVP and Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer at AmerisourceBergen. “We are serious about our obligation to grow, learn and cultivate an inclusive, welcoming workplace for long-term growth, which will ultimately benefit our customers and the patients they serve.”

Developed in 2002, the CEI evaluates LGBTQ-related policies and practices among major U.S. businesses, and their adoption of inclusive benefits, programs and public engagement. It has since become a nationally recognized benchmarking report for businesses to gauge their level of LGBTQ workplace inclusion.

AmerisourceBergen offers expanded benefits that the LGBTQ community can take advantage of, including coverage for gender reassignment surgery and associated services, HIV prevention medication, and family planning health and wellness benefits for same-sex partners. In addition to health benefits, AmerisourceBergen continues to prioritize a culture and environment where all employees feel connected, respected and included – which was particularly critical over the course of the past year when so many were required to move to a remote work environment and practice social and physical distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In June, while cities and towns made the difficult decision to postpone or cancel their 2020 Pride events, AmerisourceBergen mobilized to preserve a sense of LGBTQ+ Pride, and to bring its employee-base together virtually. Through various learning sessions, virtual celebratory events and online meetings, AmerisourceBergen employees and leaders came together to support one another and the community.

Additionally, the AmerisourceBergen Foundation, the independent, not-for-profit charitable giving arm of AmerisourceBergen, partnered with SAGE, the world’s largest and oldest organization dedicated to improving the lives of LGBT elders. Through their collaboration, SAGE hosted a virtual event for AmerisourceBergen employees to better understand available support programs for seniors in the LGBTQ+ community, including housing programs, meal delivery and care management. They also educated employees about new challenges LGBTQ+ elders faced in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and how to get involved in their communities to make a difference.

AmerisourceBergen continues to build on its commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive culture and recently appointed Dr. Haynes as the company’s Chief Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Officer. As part of the broader Communications and Administrations group within AmerisourceBergen, which encompasses Human Resources, Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability, Government Affairs, Marketing and Communications, Dr. Haynes has been instrumental in helping to guide the organization to infuse D&I into the workplace, the marketplace and our communities.

Accelerating diversity and inclusion as a pharmaceutical-centered company that is focused on fueling growth through innovation is essential to AmerisourceBergen. More information about AmerisourceBergen’s diversity and inclusion efforts is outlined in the company’s 2020 Global Sustainability Report available at www.sustainability.amerisourcebergen.com.
