AmerisourceBergen Introduces CareFront to Support Patients During Cancer Care

Chesterbrook, Pa. – Today, AmerisourceBergen, a global healthcare solutions leader, announced the launch of CareFront, a first-of-its-kind population health management program focused on the needs of patients diagnosed with cancer. Designed to be built into existing employer benefit packages, CareFront connects newly diagnosed cancer patients with resources for their care and explains how to avoid unnecessary medical costs. The program also offers tools to help patients understand their treatment options and financially rewards participants for enhancing the quality of their care.

“Cancer continues to be among the most expensive diseases individuals and families may encounter. By optimizing the quality of care, we can also reduce the overall costs of cancer care and minimize the negative impact on patients,” said Barry Fortner, president of ION Solutions, an AmerisourceBergen company. “Supporting patients as they navigate oncology care has long been an important focus area for AmerisourceBergen. We are proud to launch CareFront as a comprehensive patient engagement strategy that helps participants control costs and evaluate diverse choices for their site of care.”

The program supports existing benefits packages by providing patients with education resources and financial rewards that can help maximize care, including:
CareFront’s Cancer Resource Guide and Physician Directory educates patients about selecting an oncologist, how to talk to a community oncologist and what to expect during chemotherapy. The directory provides a convenient resource to help patients identify an oncologist in their area and evaluate choices in care. Both are designed to prepare cancer patients with the information they need when diagnosed.

The CareFront Rewards Program incentivizes patients to take an active role in their treatment by taking steps to enhance their quality of care, like seeking advice prior to going to the emergency room, participating in care discussions and adhering to medications. Patients can earn up to $1,500 per year to help pay eligible medical expenses and health plans can eliminate $5,300 in costs per patient.
