AmerisourceBergen Earns Top Marks in 2020 Corporate Equality Index

AmerisourceBergen earns 100 percent on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s annual scorecard assessing LGBTQ workplace equality
VALLEY FORGE, Pa. – AmerisourceBergen, a global healthcare solutions leader, has been designated as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality after receiving a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2020 Corporate Equality Index (CEI). The CEI has been the U.S.’s most recognized report on policies involving LGBTQ equality in the workplace for nearly 20 years.

The 2020 CEI assesses 1059 major U.S. businesses’ adherence to LGBTQ-related practices, including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs, and public engagement with the LGBTQ community. The CEI’s criteria are constantly evolving as new best practices emerge and more companies embrace LGBTQ-friendly policies. In fulfilling all CEI’s guidelines, AmerisourceBergen earned a 100 percent score and the designation as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality.

“We believe wholeheartedly in creating and cultivating a positive work environment that’s educated, inclusive, safe and respectful. We want our associates to feel comfortable bringing their authentic selves to work and being an employer that fosters LGBTQ equality is a core piece of that,” said Silvana Battaglia, EVP and Chief Human Resources Officer at AmerisourceBergen. “I’m proud of our associates for living up to our beliefs and being the cornerstone of our culture. This isn’t just a recognition for us, it’s a responsibility.”

AmerisourceBergen and the AmerisourceBergen Foundation, the not-for-profit charitable giving arm of AmerisourceBergen, have partnered with The Trevor Project to further uphold the rights of the LGBTQ communities. The Trevor Project is the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ young people. This year, the AmerisourceBergen Foundation provided $100,000 in funding to The Trevor Project to augment its Digital Crisis Services (TrevorText and TrevorChat), which provide free and confidential crisis counseling 24/7 to LGBTQ youth on the platforms where they feel most comfortable. The funds will be used to augment the program’s staff capacity, technology, infrastructure and build its volunteer network.

“The impact of the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index over its 18-year history is profound. In this time, the corporate community has worked with us to adopt LGBTQ-inclusive policies, practices and benefits, establishing the Corporate Equality Index as a primary driving force for LGBTQ workplace inclusion in America and across the globe,” said HRC President Alphonso David. “These companies know that protecting their LGBTQ employees and customers from discrimination is not just the right thing to do -- it is also the best business decision. In addition, many of these leaders are also advocating for the LGBTQ community and equality under the law in the public square. From supporting LGBTQ civil rights protections in the U.S. through HRC’s Business Coalition for the Equality Act, to featuring transgender and non-binary people in an ad in Argentina, to advocating for marriage equality in Taiwan -- businesses understand their LGBTQ employees and customers deserve to be seen, valued and respected not only at work, but in every aspect of daily life.”

AmerisourceBergen is thoroughly committed to acting as a responsible corporate citizen, and continually searching for new pathways to provide support to our associates, communities, and operations.
