Media statement on COVID-19 vaccine distribution support in California

Starting the week of August 23rd, AmerisourceBergen will support the State of California in distributing Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines to small physician practices. This collaboration will support small public and private physician practices enrolled in the state’s COVID-19 vaccination program that elect to receive smaller or minimum quantities of the vaccine. This collaboration will support many local health jurisdictions currently undertaking local redistribution efforts, relieving some capacity and workloads.

Based on projected demand from small physician offices, AmerisourceBergen and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) will place bulk orders with the CDC, and product will be stored at AmerisourceBergen’s specialty distribution center, for fulfillment of small Pfizer orders. AmerisourceBergen, as an approved COVID-19 redistributor within the California COVID-19 Program, will ship out smaller quantities of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines, depending on what’s needed, directly to healthcare facilities.

AmerisourceBergen is proud to leverage its strong capabilities and expertise handling specialty pharmaceuticals to assist California as the state supplies small physician practices in the COVID-19 vaccination movement. As an exclusive distributor for select COVID-19 therapies, AmerisourceBergen has been working closely with state health departments, so this is a natural extension of AmerisourceBergen’s ongoing role in supporting COVID-19 pandemic response.
