Energy management

Energy management is critical to sustainability and an area that delivers value for our stakeholders. We actively seek new ways to improve efficiency and reduce costs by making significant investments in our distribution infrastructure and advanced warehouse management systems. Our Kansas City distribution center is Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certified and Lash Group’s two new office buildings in Fort Mill, South Carolina are LEED Gold and LEED Silver Certified. To aid in clean electricity production, solar panels sit on top of our World Courier building in New Hyde Park, New York. In 2018, we opened our new Phoenix distribution center, outfitted with on-site solar power. In Sacramento, we announced a power purchase agreement for on-site solar at our distribution center For more information on our climate and energy practices, see our CDP disclosure

Waste and water optimization

AmerisourceBergen and its associates are committed to recycling, as well as the reduction or total elimination of waste. Our distribution center associates use reusable and recyclable totes instead of packaging materials to reduce waste We increased our pallet recycling program in each of our distribution centers, and advanced our commitment to responsible disposal of electronic waste. In each of our distribution centers, AmerisourceBergen has implemented water efficiency practices and invested in automated and low-flow plumbing fixtures.

Transportation efficiency

Across AmerisourceBergen’s business units, we constantly look for opportunities to enhance the efficiency and reliability of transportation. Our third-party carriers utilize sophisticated delivery-route planning methods to consolidate orders and shipments, minimizing both the number of vehicles required to serve our customers and total miles traveled. As part of World Courier's ISO 14001 certification, all leased and company-owned cargo vans and passenger vehicles are tracked and replaced, when necessary, with more fuel-efficient models.

Responsible sourcing

AmerisourceBergen seeks opportunities to buy goods and services from suppliers, contractors and vendors who share our responsible sourcing goals. We incorporate sustainability into our procurement process for indirect goods, encouraging bidders to include socially, economically and environmentally friendly products and service options in their offerings.

Committed to supplier diversity

We are committed to promoting the success of small-, minority-, women-, disabled- and veteran-owned businesses as they are the foundation of a competitive economy and the source of many business innovations that make us a leader in healthcare distribution and related services. Accordingly, we support policies, procedures and programs designed to increase the inclusion of diverse suppliers across our sourcing process.
