A healthier planet starts with us
Delivering daily shipments to tens of thousands of healthcare facilities requires logistics and planning expertise across our increasingly complex supply chain. We are committed to partnering with our suppliers and customers to identify opportunities where we can make a positive impact.Corporate Citizenship Report
We actively seek new ways to improve efficiency and reduce costs by making significant investments in our distribution infrastructure and advanced warehouse management systems. Our Kansas City distribution center is Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certified and, in 2016, we received LEED certification for Lash Group’s new office building in Fort Mill, South Carolina. To aid in clean electricity production, solar panels sit on top of our World Courier building in New Hyde Park, New York. For more information on our climate and energy practices, see our CDP disclosure.
Waste and water optimization
Our distribution center associates use totes instead of packaging materials to reduce waste. Pallets, paper and plastic, including stretch wrap, are recycled at nearly all of our distribution centers, and we donate excess medical products to communities in need. We also apply technologies that eliminate or reduce downstream waste—for example, PharMEDium has combined product dating with a unique tamper-evident feature to significantly reduce drug waste. To reduce water use, we implement water-efficiency practices and invest in automated and low-flow plumbing fixtures. We have also integrated water-efficiency recommendations in our new construction guidelines to reduce future water use.
We work with our transportation partners to reduce the fuel costs and greenhouse gas emissions associated with distribution. Our third-party carriers utilize delivery-route planning methods to consolidate orders and shipments, minimizing both the number of vehicles required to serve our customers and total miles traveled. As part of World Courier's ISO 14001 certification, our company vehicles are replaced, when necessary, with more fuel-efficient models.
Delivering daily shipments to tens of thousands of healthcare facilities requires sophisticated planning expertise. We actively seek opportunities to partner with suppliers, contractors and vendors who focus on continuously improving the safety and productivity of our pharmaceutical supply chain.
