Medical Plans

AmerisourceBergen offers a number of medical options to our eligible associates*, giving them the flexibility to choose the plan and level of coverage that best meets their needs.

Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) Plans: We offer two HMO plans at most of our locations. These plans vary with the type of coverage that would be suitable for your needs. Under these plans, you must select a primary care physician and do need referrals.

Point of Service (POS) Plans: We also offer two POS plans in most locations. With these plans you do not need to select a primary care physician, and referrals are not needed.

Prescription Drug Coverage

Prescription drugs are provided through all the medical plans, with co-pays for both brand name and generic pharmaceuticals. The administration of the plan can vary depending on location and chosen medical plan.

Dental Plans

We offer two dental plans with differing levels of coverage based on your needs. Each plan covers preventive care and basic and major services, but the level of reimbursement will vary by plan.

Vision Plan

Vision coverage is administered by a provider and typically covers eye exams, lenses, frames and contact lenses. Laser vision correction pricing will also be offered by the provider.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)

You can contribute pre-tax dollars to a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to lower your taxes and help pay for out-of-pocket healthcare or day care expenses. The Health Care FSA allows you to set aside money for those expenses not covered by your medical, dental or vision plans. The Day Care FSA allows you to set aside money for care for your children or other eligible dependents.

Basic and Supplemental Life Insurance

AmerisourceBergen provides a basic life insurance benefit, and you have the option to purchase supplemental coverage for yourself, spouse or qualified domestic partner or children. In addition to the basic life insurance, AmerisourceBergen provides basic accidental death and dismemberment insurance. You have the opportunity to purchase supplemental insurance on this benefit.

Disability Insurance

AmerisourceBergen provides income replacement benefits for associates who are unable to work due to illness or injury. The company provides both short-term and long-term disability insurance, and associates have the option to purchase supplemental coverage on long-term insurance.

Business Travel Accident Insurance

AmerisourceBergen provides business accident travel insurance to full-time associates who may suffer certain serious injuries or die while traveling on company business.

We strive to help our associates find balance at work and at home. We offer a comprehensive lineup of programs that complements our healthcare, insurance and retirement plans.

Vacation, Holidays and Personal Days
We provide vacation days based on your years of service. In addition to vacation time, associates receive company-paid holidays and personal days each year to use at their discretion.

Other Leave Programs
We offer other leave programs including family and medical leave, military, personal and bereavement leaves.

Employee Stock Purchase Program
The Employee Stock Purchase Program is an easy and cost-effective way to build ownership in AmerisourceBergen. Your contributions to the plan are used to buy common stock of AmerisourceBergen at a discounted price.

Voluntary Benefits
Eligible associates have access to insurance programs through a vendor partner at discounted group rates. Payment can be made through convenient payroll deductions.

Discount Programs
We offer discount programs to associates for several national vendors.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
The Employee Assistance Program, which is administered by an outside vendor, offers counseling and assistance to associates and their dependents for a variety of personal and situational life issues.

Tuition Assistance
This program provides financial assistance to eligible associates by reimbursing a portion of school expenses, including tuition, registration and lab fees, up to a specified amount. Grade requirements apply, and the course(s) must be job-related.

National Merit Scholarship Program
High school students of AmerisourceBergen associates can apply for scholarships through the National Merit Scholarship Program. Awards are made annually to graduating seniors.


The AmerisourceBergen Employee Investment Plan offers associates a comprehensive way to save for retirement. You can contribute to the plan as early as the first of the month following 30 days of employment.

  • AmerisourceBergen will match a percentage of your contribution
  • AmerisourceBergen associates are immediately vested with their contributions to the plan, as well as with company matching contributions
  • There are a wide variety of investment options available
  • Loans and other in-service withdrawals are available
  • Rollovers of 401(k) accounts from other employers are permitted
